Something occurred to me while I was out shopping/banking/yoga-ing a few weeks ago...almost every person I came in contact with asked me if I was finished my Christmas shopping yet. The first thing I thought after realizing this, was that this seemingly innocent question is personal on so many levels. Think about it. Weird, huh?
Although I have 1.5 scarves left to knit, all gifts to wrap, house cleaning to do, and a meal for 20 people to cook–I am surprisingly calm. I am officially ready to enjoy the holiday season and slow my pace for the next week. Okay, okay, I do have two business meetings scheduled for next week, but still. I won't be working in my office.
And yes, my Christmas shopping is finished...as of today.

Not So Funny
Remember that movie Groundhog Day? That's what life feels like to me lately. All my days are running together, and I'm feeling a little like a robot. Running a business + worrying about issues on the home front + being the only one in the house rounding up Christmas gifts + preparing to host 20 people on Christmas eve, does not = a happy girl. But alas, I've done it to myself! The colder weather arriving here in DC-land is at least helping me lift my holiday mood.
So, I will remind myself of some other reasons to be cheerful right now:
- One of my best friends in the world is getting married to her longtime love.
- Family members are healthy.
- One of my other best friends is feeling herself again.
- I am on the verge of closing out the first (successful!) year in business for myself.
- I've learned to knit.
Yes, people, knitting. I highly recommend it for those of you who have trouble relaxing. And, as much as I'd love to sit down right now and start my fifth scarf, I must get myself to my office and be productive.

If A Coffee Were Named After Me
I have considered several times over the last months to start this blog. Since Ms. Write Again Soon has formally mentioned me in hers, I now feel compelled.
Those of you who know me well, already know that "Pleasant Mornings" is a nickname bestowed upon me because I am horribly irritable when I get up in the morning. I'm not grumpy in general–I just need a fair amount of time, caffeine and peace after waking up before being able to interact with others.
Given the love affair that I have with the internet, I am surprised myself that it has taken me this long to share details of my life with total (and not-so-total) strangers. Somehow, funny shit always seems to happen to me or around me. So I hope this thing will prove to be entertaining to you.
